The News Journal's recent article "Solar moving slowly in Ohio" did a great job of highlighting why clean energy is an important part of what's powering Ohio, providing pollution-free energy that keeps our economy going and our air clean, while creating thousands of jobs in clean energy production and manufacturing right here in our state.

There is huge potential for wind power in Ohio -- an assessment from the National Renewable Energy Lab estimates that wind could provide 95.3 percent of Ohio's current electricity needs.

Now is the time to build on our progress and set a path forward, but critical clean energy tax credits will expire at the end of this year unless Congress acts. Ohio's U.S. Sens. Brown and Portman should work to extend the renewable energy production tax credit (PTC) and the offshore wind investment tax credit (ITC) as soon as possible to ensure a cleaner, healthier future for Ohioans.
